TITLE: SCHOOL CALENDAR

Aurora Fourth-graders at Freeman Elementary School in Aurora will mark the end of their partnership with Aurora University with a commencement ceremony at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.Each of the fourth-graders will be given $1,000 scholarships to AU to be used if they attend the school.

The partnership School evolved out of the School Business Partnership program developed by the Aurora Chamber of Commerce to partner local businesses with schools.

At the ceremony, a 5-foot Corten steel sculpture will be unveiled by fourth-grader Allen Fairbanks, who designed the piece.

The sculpture features the hand of a child juxtaposed before the hand of an adult, signifying a partnership.

The steel for the statue was cut by My-Lin Manufacturing Inc. of Aurora and it was constructed by Garbe Iron Works of Aurora.

These firms donated their time and materials.

Plano Spring concert on tap The Plano High School Music Department will present its Spring Band and Choral Concert at 7 p.m. Monday in the Gary Mitchell Fine Arts Center at the high school.

Admission is free.

Batavia Haircuts to help band The Batavia High School Marching Band is holding an All-Day Pedicure and Haircut-a-Thon as part of a fund-raising campaign BHS band parents and students have worked together on this spring to help pay for 200 marching band uniforms on order for fall delivery.

Sarah at Sue's Family Hair Co., 40 N. Island Ave., Batavia (near Parsley and Basil's) will give pedicures for $15 each from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday with all proceeds to benefit the BHS band uniform fund.

There will also be a Haircut-a- Thon at Sue's Family Hair Co. from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday to benefit the uniform fund.

The cost of a haircut will be $12, with the entire $12 to be donated to the band.

No appointments will be taken for either event.

Anyone wanting to donate directly to the uniform fund is invited to mail a check payable to BHS Bands to Batavia High School, 1200 W. Wilson St., Batavia 60510.

Picnic planned Batavia High School's Parent Advisory Council will sponsor a "Most Improved Performer" picnic lunch at Engstrom Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. The faculty has nominated students to be recognized for improving their performance in a positive direction.

The picnic lunch will be catered by the high school food service class. This will be the Parent Advisory Council's final student recognition activity this year.

Internet class set Batavia High School student computer technicians are sponsoring a free class on how to use the Internet.

This class will include how to use the Netscape Navigator World Wide Web browser, how to view basic web pages and how to save bookmarks.

The class is 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Kindergartners sought The Geneva Community School District is looking for all new incoming kindergarten students.

The district is looking for anyone who missed the districtwide registration in March.
