Mistrust Is Crux Of Player Strike // Union Claims `Poor' Owners Crying Wolf

When baseball's owners (five of them, at least) and players (28team representatives) finally sit down together this week, thequestion still will be: How much money is in the till?

Many owners are claiming there is an empty cash drawer. Playersare claiming accountants have hidden the cash under some floor.

Hardly anyone believes ownership's original claim that 19 teamswould lose money this season - not players, not the media, notFinancial World magazine. Hardly anyone even believes ownership'srevised claim that a dozen teams will lose money.
